Goalies Impacted by Magic Goaltending Development

2011 NHL Draft Prospect, Eric Williams
• Dave Williams, Coach and Parent Eric Williams, PA Raiders, WHL – “I have been a Hockey coach for 30 years, I can say without a doubt that Magic Hockey offers one of the most complete & comprehensive Goalie program that covers all goalies from beginners to Pro. The facility at Magic is top notch and the Instructor / Goalie ratio is perfect for maximum development. The one & one feed back and the ability to battle shot after shot was instrumental to my son advancing through their program and playing at the top level each and every year. The Technical advantage the goalies get no matter what style they play is unmatched in the industry. I believe that Magic Hockey is best place to develop a foundation that every goalie needs to succeed.”

• Jake Heilbron, Parent Nathaniel Heilbron, Prep School/MM – “It’s interesting that while it’s easy to recognize a Magic goalie from their strong skating and save movements, every one of them has a unique style all their own. No one else teaches a better system, and no one else motivates goalies better than Magic and Angelo.”

• Darrel Stanwood, Coach and Parent Lyndon Stanwood Jr B Goaltender – Since my son started goaltending, Angelo and the staff of Magic Hockey has guided his development both technically and emotionally. I truly feel that my son would not have had all the successes in his young career without Angelo’s great mentoring and on ice technical guidance. Angelo has always been there to help both on and off the ice when needed and I anticipate many great future years working together with Magic Hockey.

• Bob Waldhaus, coach and parent Ryan Waldhaus, Creston Valley, KIJHL – “Being involved in hockey for over 35 years I have been involved with hockey camps and hockey development training at the highest levels both as a participant, instructor, coach and as a parent. The past 5 years my son has been a part of Angelo’s Magic Hockey program and it has delivered the highest quality of instruction available. Angelo has shown a passion and quality that other programs just can’t match. Magic Hockey’s commitment to its students and their development is what separates Magic Hockey from all its competitors. My sons success at the BC Hockey Best Ever, BC Major Midget at Junior levels can all be attributed to Angelo’s (Magic Hockey) passion and commitment to excellence. The success of Magic Hockey’s students speaks for itself. I would highly recommend Magic Hockey to any Goalie looking to reach their peak performance both on and off the ice.”

Magic’s Brandon Anderson signs NHL Deal

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes would like to congratulate goaltender Brandon Anderson on his signing to an NHL Entry level deal with the Washington Capitals. This move comes following the his solid showing at Capitals Rookie Camp this past week – Adding to the accomplishment is the fact that Anderson earned the honor as an undrafted rookie free agent.

As a rookie he earned his first WHL win on November 4th, 2009 in a 3-2 win over the Everett Silvertips. He finished his rookie season with a record of 12-19-1-1 and a .892 save percentage and a 3.49 GAA, solid numbers for a 17 year old rookie goaltender. A Hurricanes Bantam Draft pick; Anderson was selected in the third round of the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft (50th Overall) and during his bantam draft year of 06-07, Anderson was instrumental down the playoff stretch as the starting goaltender for the 2007 Western Canadian Bantam Champion Burnaby Winter Club.

Anderson was then called up twice in the 08-09 campaign, first as an emergency back up during the absence of Juha Metsola who was away at the 2009 World Juniors and second during the 2009 WHL Playoffs. He played a solid rookie season with Columbia Valley of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League and made his first ever WHL start in Game 1 of the Hurricanes first round WHL playoff series against the Saskatoon Blades

Anderson has arrived back in Lethbridge and is expected to be game ready and back in action in time for the Hurricanes Season Opener on Friday night in Calgary.

Magic’s Evan Karambelas commites to Minnesota State University – Mankato Mavericks

‘RUNNERS NETMINDER CHOOSES DIVISION I COLLEGE

Topeka RoadRunners goaltender Evan Karambelas will continue his hockey career with the Minnesota State University – Mankato Mavericks. The Mavericks play in the Division I WCHA.

“I came into the season with the goal to play NCAA Div 1 hockey the following year, and now I can do that”, said the 6′2″ 205 lb netminder from Fort Saint John, BC, Canada. “Going to school and playing a high level of hockey was very important. ” Thrust into a starting role early when returning veteran Cooper Frederick was injured, Karambelas started each of the first 9 games of the season. He fashioned a 6-2-1 record. Then, sidelined by an illness, he was idle for nearly two months before he was ready to return to the ice. Still, he was selected to participate in the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in January 2010 where he led all tournament goalies with a .963 save percentage and a 1.34 goals against average.  At season’s end, he was ranked fourth in the NAHL with a 22-4-1 record and a 2.27 goals against average.

His time spent in junior hockey has Karambelas feeling confident as he makes the transition to Division I college. “Every time you move up a level, especially as a goalie, you have to adjust to a lot of things”, he said. ” I’m expecting the speed and skill of the college level guys to take time to adjust to, but my time playing junior hockey has given me a solid foundation to build off of.” When asked if he aspires to play professionally someday, he defers. “I won’t be able to answer that until I’m a few years into my college career”. He adds, “I always wanted to play pro, especially in Europe, but that will all depend a lot on what happens in the next couple years.”

As he looks back on his time as a RoadRunner, Karambelas finds some good memories. “Among many things, ‘Google Night’ when the arena was sold out was a great experience. It was awesome to see the people of Topeka come out and support the cause.”  He continued, “I just want to thank everyone involved in the RoadRunner organization, from the billets to the coaches, for allowing me to come in and finish my junior career in the best way possible. I didn’t know what to expect when I came all the way down to Topeka, Kansas, but I left Topeka knowing I made some amazing friends, memories, and had a blast in the process.”

Karambelas plans to pursue a degree in business management or finance. As an MSU Maverick, he will join RoadRunner alum Eriah Hayes who will be a sophomore this coming season.  Karambelas becomes the 7th RoadRunner from this year’s roster to move on to a Division I school.
