Head Instructor
Don has been part of the Magic Team as a head instructor for the past 7 years and has been instructing and mentoring goaltenders over 14 years. Don draws on his experiences from playing Minor hockey and Junior hockey in BC with both the Richmond Sockeyes and Vancouver Bluehawks and went on to play with New Westminster Bruins (WHL) and Senior AAA (Abbotsford Flyers). Don brings his love of the game and enjoys motivating his students to reach their full potential.
NORM READER:Head Instructor:
Norm has been part of the Magic Team as a head instructor for the past 3 years. Norm has coach and Mentor for the past 12 years. He both motivates and challenges each student.
PETER VAN STOLK:Head Instructor
Peter has been a part of the Magic team for the past 3 years. He played his minor hockey in Chilliwack, and continued on to play Major Midget and a year of Junior hockey in Ridge Meadows before deciding to pursue an academic career. He is currently completing the fourth year of a Bachelor of Science degree at UBC while playing in recreation and men’s leagues. Peter enjoys working with young goaltenders and explaining the thought processes that give rise to the various techniques. He has great communication skills and both challenges and motivates each student.
TREVOR LOWRIE:Head Instructor
Trevor has been part of the Magic Team as a instructor for the past 7 years and also coaching and mentoring Ridge Meadows MHA, Peewee AAA. He played his Junior Hockey in BC and the US and then to the professional level in the CHL with Shreveport. Trevor’s passion and dedication to goal tendering instruction has complimented the Magic Team.
JP CHAPMAN :Instructor
JP has been part of the Magic Team as a instructor for the past 3 years. JP is currently attending Trinity Western University playing in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League. JP has great communication skills and both motivates and challenges each student.
TOM HALPENNY :Instructor
Tom has been part of the Magic Team as a instructor for the past 3 years and has been instructing and mentoring goaltenders for almost a decade. With a background in both motivational speaking and counselling Tom understands the mental and the physical aspects of the game and combines on ice training with mental preparation. He both motivates and challenges each student.
ROB RENY: Instructor
Rob has been part of the Magic Team as a instructor for the past 6 years and has been instructing and mentoring goaltenders over 13 years. Rob played both Junior and College hockey and is a dedicated individual in passing on his knowledge of the game. He both motivates and challenges each student.
Instructor
Justin has been part of the Magic Team mentor – instructor for the past 8 years. Justin played his Junior Hockey with Richmond Sockeyes (Jr B), Quesnel (Jr A), Lethbridge (WHL) and Surrey (Jr A). Justin is currently playing in the CIS, and is specializing in Human Kinetics . Justin both motivates and challenges each student.
ROB MATTISON:Instructor – Summer
Rob has been an mentor and head instructor with the Magic for the past 8 years. Recently finishing college, he is pursuing a professional career this upcoming season. Robbie played for the University of Oklahoma from 2005-2008 where he was earning a degree in Human Relations. Rob hails from Anchorage, Alaska playing for Dimond High Varsity and South Central Wolves Midget AAA. He was been a member of All Star Teams throughout his career including Alaska All-State First Team Goalie and MVP.
He pursued his junior career in the KIJHL with Sicamous Eagles, as well as stints with the Teams in the AJHL; Lloydminster Blazers, Winnipeg Saints (MJHL), Ridge Meadows Flames (PIJHL), Laconia Junior Leafs, (IJHL). Rob has coached young goalies at various schools previous to Magic hockey and has developed into a great instructor, working with goalies ranging from beginners to Junior, he both motivates and challenges each student.
Instructor – Summer
Daniel has been part of the Magic Team mentor – instructor program for the past 8 years. Daniel played 4 year with the Calgary Hitmen, WHL, and finishing his last year with the Sarnia Stings in the OHL. He now is seeking to play pro. Daniel both motivates and challenges each student.
SHELDON BAERG :Instructor – Summer
Sheldon has been coaching for the past 7 years. He was the goalie instructor for Banff Hockey Academy for the past 3 years. He is currently in his 4th year at Concordia University in the CIS, and looking to go to Europe and play Pro once he is done at University. He really enjoy coaching at Magic hockey, and enjoys teaching the skills and both motivates and challenges each student to push themselves.
LUCAS SIMPSON :Instructor – Summer
Lucas has been part of the Magic Team as a instructor for the past 2 years. Lucas grew up playing his Minor Hockey for the Coquitlam Chiefs and is now playing Junior Hockey for the Peninsula Panther in the VIJHL. Lucas has great communication skills and both motivates and challenges each student.
MIKE TAFFE:Instructor – Summer
Mike has been part of Magic Team as a mentor – instructor for the past 2 years. Mike hails from Minnesota where he attended Providence High School and played for the Varsity Hockey Team.
Anchorage, Alaska USA: Satellite Instructor
Josh has been part of the Magic Team as an instructor for the past 7 years and has been instructing and mentoring goaltenders for over 10 years. Josh has worked with goalies from all the organizations in the area; North Stars, All Starts, Wolves, Bulldogs, Mustangs, Jr Aces, Eagles as well working with the Anchorage School Districts High School Teams. Josh is super energetic, he both motivates and challenges each student.
Anchorage, Alaska USA: Satellite Instructor
Adam has been part of the Magic Team as a mentor – instructor for the past 3 years. Adam played his youth hockey for the Alaska All Stars and proved to be one of Alaska’s top goalie. He then moved on to play for the US National Development team for 2 seasons and earned a Scholarship to the University of Denver (NCAA Div. 1 hockey) where he currently plays. Adam has great communication skills and both motivates and challenges each student.
